Subject: POWER ANTENNA - "MAST REPLACEMENT" Models: 318i, 325e, 528e, 533i, 630CSi, 633csi, 733i The Parts Department is now offering replacement telescoping masts for the Hirschmann power antenna used on the above models (including 1984); therefore, it is no longer necessary to replace the entire antenna when the mast is broken, bent, or short circuited. 40 PERCENT OF THE POWER ANTENNA ASSEMBLIES RETURNED TO OUR QUALITY CONTROL DEPARTMENT UNDER WARRANTY ARE REJECTED DUE TO BENT MASTS. PLEASE INFORM YOUR PERSONNEL TO CHECK FOR A BENT MAST BEFORE COMMITTING TO CUSTOMERS TO REPLACE A POWER ANTENNA UNDER WARRANTY. There are two different masts for the two different antennas. Antenna Replacement Mast Plastic Housing 88 88 0 825 948 Metal Housing/Plastic Cover 88 88 0 882 090 Installation instructions are included with each replacement mast. IMPORTANT: IF IT BECOMES NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE ANTENNA ASSEMBLY (UNDER WARRANTY), THE PARTS RETURN TAG SHOULD INCLUDE A COMPLETE DESCRIPTION OF WHY THE ANTENNA ASSEMBLY IS BEING REPLACED. THE STATEMENTS "ANTENNA DEFECTIVE" OR "ANTENNA DOESN'T WORK" ARE NOT DEFINITIVE DESCRIPTIONS. If the antenna operation is intermittent, the parts return tag and warranty claim must be so annotated. Otherwise, the claim will be rejected if the antenna works properly when tested by Quality Control. If the antenna mast will not retract, remove the mast before removing the antenna assembly. Otherwise, it will be necessary to bend the mast in order to remove the antenna assembly and the claim will be rejected. ANTENNA MAST MAINTENANCE Accumulated dirt and contaminants on the mast may cause improper antenna operation. Unfortunately, the antenna mast is usually retracted during car washing; therefore, it does not get cleaned. To insure proper operation of the mast and good signal reception, it should be cleaned monthly or as required with an antenna mast cleaning pad, available under part number 65 12 9 056 514 (1 package of 10 pad). Please make sure that your customers are aware of this maintenance requirement (see page 5-05 of the applicable owners handbook).
